In our Sovereignty framework, the Sovereignty Act will maintain a five year cycle in between General Elections, but will establish a regular calendar of voting days, where there are three voting days each year.
These will be on
05 March
05 July
05 November (and yes, to commemorate Guy Fawkes day and all its implications in a meaningful day)
General Elections will take place on 05 July. This is in order to ensure a reasonable timeframe for a new Finance Bill and Charter for Budget Responsibility to be passed into law on 05 November, providing roughly five months for taxpayers, businesses and government agencies to prepare for new fiscal policies that will come into affect at the start of the financial year on 06 April.
Here's an overview of the Election & Budget Timeline:
Election Day: July 5 - General election.
Budget Negotiation: From July 5 to November 5, RMs work on their fiscal plans.
Final Budget Vote: November 5 - The final budget, including tax changes, is voted on by both Parliament and the public.
